in da club(s)

Just when we thought we were starting to catch up to finance and accounting, it dawned on many of us about the same time that there is more to business school than classes and the occasional social event. That time was org fair, when we realized that all the clubs and activities were starting up. Like immediately.

Now there are some folks who know they want to be a brand manager, so they sign up for the marketing clubs. Easy. And there are others who know they want to do finance. So they do the investment fund. But many of us are not quite sure what we want to do. Since we've been told to "pick one or two clubs and really commit yourself to them" rather than join 17 clubs and be a half-hearted member in all of them, there's pressure to pick clubs that will be relevant to what we want to do in our career. And therein lies the problem - most of us are about as sure of our career choice as Frodo was about chunking that ring into the Fires of Mount Doom. We need a Gollum to jump on our backs and bite our finger off to force our hand.

What does help you choose is when clubs double-book time slots. Like the GWIB (graduate women in business) sundress & cocktails event, which overlapped with ES (Entrepreneur Society)'s boat cruise last night. What doesn't help is when ES helps ladies attend both by bringing the boat back halfway through the cruise so the women could get off and head for their sundress & cocktails event. I heard
Bats fly out under the Congress Ave bridge.
We got to see them from the ES boat
there was girl-on-girl making out in that event. Whatever. We had bats.

I'm probably going to do as much Entrepreneurial stuff as I can, in the hopes I'll get inspired by someone or The Next Big Idea and can run with it. I'm not banking on it though, which is why I want to be involved in Marketing (my previous industry) and Consulting (my previous function) stuff as well. Hence why I'll pay dues for about 7 clubs (gotta include the soccer, golf, and wine clubs, obviously) in attempt to keep doors open.
